SCIO Update
Basic Instructions; To fix for the SCIO Time Bomb; USB-Serial or USB-USB only NOT QXCI OR QMCI
This only works for software version 3-3-10 and up UP! Do not use with older 09 versions of the software!
- Do this process with a good high speed internet connection
- Follow the prompts. Be patient and resist the urge to click a command twice if it appears that nothing is happening. It may be pausing to process information.
If you see this Box (image below) - Click Cancel, then Yes and Finish to Close
If you have already run this update once, you will see the window to modify or repair (see below). Do not proceed. Instead please use the CLASP32 Update Icon on your desktop.

Step One
Start by Clicking the Download Update button In blue below. This will start the process and by giving you the option to “Save” or “Run”. If you have to “Save” first you will need to “Run” after. This sets up the Install Wizard. Click through the prompts; Next, Install, Run, and Finish. This has now updated the actual Clasp32 Update Tool on the computer’s desktop.
Step Two
- Dbl Click the Clasp32 Update Tool Icon (looks like the earth) on the computer’s desktop.
- There will be a delay before the download window appears on your desktop.
- Click the Download button in that window
- It will then proceed to the Software update.
- First, it will analyze the current files and state how many files are necessary to download. This may take a few minutes depending on your internet/computer speed.
- Once you approve this (must click ok) the actual file download begins. This process can take many minutes to many hours depending on the current version of the software, as well as how many files you need, internet speed and the speed of your computer. The latest software version is 7 7 10 (prior to this current update) so if you are doing this from a 3 3 10 version you can expect a very long wait. This is why we recommend doing this from a very good high speed internet connection that won’t be intermittent.
- A message appears at the end to let you know that the downloaded files are being moved.
- The restore for the Client files completes. Click Ok.
- You will get a message stating the Update is complete and you need to click ok and close the download window.
- Reboot and you should be all set!
- Open up Norman Antivirus program by right clicking on the icon in the system tray
- This is usually in the bottom right (area by the time and date display)
- Select “Norman Security Suite”
- Click on the install and update on the left.
- Uncheck the box next to “Internet Protection” and let it uninstall
- Close Norman
- Right click again on the Norman icon in the system tray and turn automatic scanner off
- It may take about 30 seconds for each step but then the update process should work fine
- After doing the Software Update you will need to enable Norman again
- Right click again on the Norman icon in the system tray and turn automatic scanner back on
Once the update is complete - run the new Clasp32 Update Icon on your Desktop
Trouble shooting Tips
Some Antivirus programs may interfere with the process. The Clasp32 Install Wizard freezes or does not allow you to click the Next and Back. You may get a socket or some other security error message. So if you have this issue your antivirus is what may be causing this conflict. The biggest culprit for this so far has been Norman, simply due to so many of our users who have it. Previously, with other updates, just making sure you set Norman to ALLOW - an install or disabling it would be sufficient. However, there have been cases where the only solution, in this particular case, has been to uninstall it from the Add/Remove programs.
Disabling the Norman Antivirus program
NOW Proceed with the Software Update Process
However, if there continues to be a conflict the only solution may be to completely uninstall it from Add/Remove / Uninstall or Change a program. If you uninstall it, you will have to reboot. You could use this as a temporary solution and then reinstall your former antivirus program after doing the update. In the meantime, or as an alternative antivirus program you could look into using MSSE (Microsoft Security Essentials) which many practitioners report they are very happy with and it doesn’t seem to cause any SCIO software conflicts. We discuss the various antivirus program conflicts in our Support Central FAQ’s.
